Solar Presentation as part of the Honors College Star Lecture series on SUSTAINABILITY
Tuesday, March 27, 2012
7:00pm - 8:15pm
The Ypsilanti Food Cooperative was awarded a $6,000 grant to install a demonstration solar photovoltaic system at the store in 2005 and has been producing solar power ever since. The installation was expanded twice and now has 12 solar panels on the roof. In 2008, the Ypsi Food Coop won two more grants and installed 12 solar panels on City Hall and 30 solar panels on the River Street Bakery roof. During these installations, SolarYpsi was born and invented a way to read utility meters and display real time energy production, consumption, and exportation on their website SolarYpsi.org. This talk will give the basics of solar power production, a short history of SolarYpsi, and how Google discovered the project and put it on TV.
